You’ve just had cryotherapy, a treatment that freezes skin spots such as sunspots, warts, or other benign growths. It’s common to feel a bit sore afterward, and some redness, blistering, or scabbing can happen — this is part of the normal healing process.
Follow the steps below to help your skin heal well and reduce the chance of infection.
🕓 What to Expect After Cryotherapy
- The treated area may become red, swollen, or blistered within a few hours.
- A blister or scab often forms and will fall off on its own in 7–14 days.
- You may feel a stinging or burning sensation for a few hours after treatment.
🧼 How to Care for the Area
✅ 1. Keep it clean
- Gently clean the area once or twice a day using:
- Clean tap water, OR
- A saline soak (instructions below)
✅ 2. Cover if needed
- If the area is rubbing against clothing or has burst blisters, you can cover it with a non-stick dressing or band-aid.
- Otherwise, leave it open to the air.
- Wear sunscreen to minimise pigmentation changes.
✅ 3. Let blisters or scabs heal naturally
- Do NOT pop blisters or pick at scabs — this can delay healing or cause scarring.
💧 How to Make a Salt Water (Saline) Soak
Saline helps keep the area clean and supports healing.
🧂 Ingredients:
- 1 cup of clean, boiled water (let it cool down)
- ½ teaspoon of salt
🥣 Instructions:
- Mix ½ teaspoon of salt into 1 cup of cooled boiled water.
- Soak a clean cotton pad or cloth in the solution.
- Apply it gently to the treated area for 5–10 minutes.
- Pat dry with a clean towel or tissue.
- Do this once or twice a day if the area is weepy or blistered.
❌ What to Avoid
- No scratching, picking, or squeezing.
- Avoid swimming or hot tubs until the area has fully healed.
- No perfumed creams or alcohol-based products on the area.
- Avoid direct sun exposure — use sunscreen after the area has healed.
📞 When to Call Your Doctor
Contact your doctor if:
- The area becomes very painful, red, swollen, or warm
- You notice pus or a foul smell
- You feel unwell or have a fever
Healing usually takes 1–2 weeks, depending on the area treated and your skin type. Most spots fall off on their own. If you have any questions, feel free to contact your clinic.
