Cryotherapy Aftercare Instructions

You have had cryotherapy, a treatment that freezes skin lesions such as sunspots or warts. Mild discomfort, redness, blistering, or scabbing is normal and part of healing.


What to Expect

  • Redness, swelling, or blistering within hours
  • Blister or scab forms and falls off in 7–14 days
  • Stinging or burning for several hours after treatment

How to Care for the Area

Keep clean:
Clean once or twice daily with clean water or saline.

Cover if needed:
Cover with a non-stick dressing only if rubbing, weeping, or blistered.
Otherwise, leave open to air.

Do not pick:
Do not pop blisters or remove scabs.

Sun protection:
Use sunscreen to reduce pigmentation once healed.


Saline (Salt Water) Soak

Use if the area is blistered or weepy.

  • Mix ½ tsp salt in 1 cup cooled boiled water
  • Apply with a clean pad for 5–10 minutes
  • Pat dry
  • Repeat once or twice daily

Avoid

  • Picking, scratching, or squeezing
  • Swimming or hot tubs until healed
  • Perfumed or alcohol-based products
  • Sun exposure during healing

When to Contact Your Doctor

  • Increasing pain, redness, warmth, or swelling
  • Pus or bad smell
  • Fever or feeling unwell

Healing usually takes 1–2 weeks.
